When to replace batteries
Replace the batteries when the sound becomes weak or distorted. Replace both batteries with new ones.
Notes on batteries
If the radio turns off unexpectedly
The radio turns off automatically to prevent unnecessary wear of the batteries (Auto Power Off function).
The duration before turning off the radio varies according to the remaining battery power, but is approximately 110-130 minutes.
If you cannot turn on the radio or the radio turns off immediately after pressing POWER (Auto power off), the batteries are exhausted. Replace them with new ones.
Press POWER (Auto power off) again to listen to the radio after it automatically turns off.
To attach the battery compartment lid if it is accidentally detached (See Fig. )
The battery compartment lid is designed to come off when opened with excessive force. To put it back on, see the illustration.

When you listen to FM (TV 1-3ch*) broadcasts, the earphone cord serves as the antenna, so extend it as far as possible.

Extend the earphone cord as far as possible, even when listening via the speaker.
Pulling out the cord
Pull the cord by holding the lower part of the earphone.
Do not hold the earpiece (the part of the earphone which is put in the ear). Pulling out the cord by holding the earpiece may damage the earphones.
Winding the cord
Hold the cord gently and slide AUTO WIND in the direction of the arrow. Gently hold and guide the cord until it is wound up.
If you cannot wind the cord fully
Pull out the cord about 10 centimeters and slide AUTO WIND again.

If a nearby cellular phone causes interference (noise), turn off the cellular phone or move it farther away from the radio.
FM (TV1–3ch) (): The earphone cord serves as the antenna, so extend it as far as possible.
Extend the earphone cord as far as possible, even when you listen via the speaker.
If the optional earphone is connected to the jack, the built-in earphone will not emit sound.
AM (): A ferrite bar antenna is built in the radio. Rotate the unit horizontally for optimum reception.
In vehicles or in buildings, radio reception may be difficult. Try listening near a window.
If radio reception is noisy or difficult to hear ()
Set NOISE CUT to ON.

You can listen to the radio via the speaker or the supplied earphone.

To turn off the radio
Press POWER (Auto Power Off).
If the supplied earphone does not fit your ear Attach the supplied ear pad to the earphone.

Road safety
Do not use earphone while driving, cycling, or operating any motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. It can also be potentially dangerous to play your earphone at high volume while walking, especially at pedestrian crossings. You should exercise extreme caution or discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations.
Preventing hearing damage
Avoid using earphone at high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous, loud and extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use. Caring for others Keep the volume at a moderate level. This will allow you to hear outside sounds and to be considerate to people around you.
If there is lightning when you are using the unit, take off the earphone immediately. If you have any questions or problems concerning your unit, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.
